I found two advertisements on adflip.com that use women to sell a product that would normally not be considered sexual. One ad reading "DIM for the sheer pleasure of it" with a women posing in a sexual position, DIM pantyhose wouldn't be normally considered sexual or 'pleasurable' but with the pose they definitely are. Also there is an ad for Maurice d'Paree pajama's that reads "let me come into your bedroom with my latest creation". These ads work on the fundamental value found in pornography that women would sell sex whenever they could and also that women are sexual objects.

sexed up kids
When we watched the CBC documentary "Sext Up Kids" I got angry, now a days there is always an opinion or a study done on everything. Little girls can't even play princess without being people saying there being "sexualized" the fact that someone even thought to use princess and sexualize in the same sentence is demented.
Also the fact that we are being provided cell phones at a much younger age was discussed. I think that it’s the parent’s job to sit down and discuss that the phone should be used for talking to friends and calling home but not for sending naked pictures around. Its only common sense it’s inevitable with technology today that there will be a few girls who give in to the temptation and get caught up in a bad situation but it’s just the time we live in. It will blow over; they made their bed and had to lay in it.
I feel that computers and televisions should be kept in open areas so that parents can monitor what’s being viewed on them until the child knows enough what is right and wrong. It is possible to make sure your child doesn't see things they shouldn't. You can block channels on satellites and block sites on the internet.
One thing on the documentary that I related to was when the girls being interviewed classified "looking good" as a feeling. When you look good you project a positive and overall happier attitude in my opinion.

The above picture in my opinion is real questionable. I don't know who in their right mind would use being stupid as an advertising method. Big companies should be pushing young girls and boys to further their education as much as possible. Not go out and be stupid. I think the ads were made without thinking of the backlash it would cause, just a "stupid" mistake.

reading between the lines
Media literacy as defined is "The process of understanding and using the mass media in an assertive and non-passive way. This includes an informed and critical understanding of the nature of the media, the techniques used by them and the impact of these techniques." I never really put too much thought into how much media actually affects our world today. Some points from the video that seemed important to me were about how corporations are in the end looking to make money, just like everything there is much corruption. If running a story is going to make a newspaper loose advertisements there likely not going to share that story, and us as the viewers are deprived from that information. The video also mentioned that the two trends we are seeing in media are corporate, consolidated, centralized versus media that is diverse, local, independent. People would assume that independently owned media outlets would be more honest but I don't know if that is necessarily true because money would be tighter in a independently owned business.
Also I think it’s only expected that there are groups excluded from media, not every story can apply to every person, it’s just impossible. Most of all media is powerful it controls our thoughts, desires and everyday activities it can be a beautiful thing that expires us to do good and achieve but also can be destructive because modernly magazines and media outlets are driven solely by money so the good staples of media are being forgotten for advertisements and junk values.

Some Other Blogs
http://www.u-createcrafts.com/
Is a do-it-yourself blog with the catch phrase "inspiring you to create". Ucreate is written by two women Kari & Becky, they do a great job at writing the blog because it has good content there is always pictures to go with the instructional blog post so you can see step by step how to make the craft yourself be it a pillow, tshirt or a cabinet. They keep on task and dont ramble about things that are unrelated to the blog although they do have a page named "about us" that is the only place you even see there named mentioned. They assumably get lots of hits because they are often giving shout outs to other people who blog and there are linked blogs and websites all over Ucreate as well they have facebook, twitter and a google account you can link too.
http://www.makeup.com/authors/
Makeup.com is a much larger blog, there are 15 authors. There content is endless and there have a tip for more or less anything, usually I don't see them linking to many other blogs but prehaps that is because they have already made there claim to fame and don't need to advertise as much as before, but where they lack in affiliates they makeup for in content. They also keep your eyes busy with polls, information boxes on the side and helpful pictures.

MASS media ON body IMAGE
http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/issues/stereotyping/women_and_girls/women_beauty.cfm
The media influence what we talk and think about is a true statement because as the article above states "Women’s magazines are full of articles urging that if they can just lose those last twenty pounds, they’ll have it all" after seeing thin beautiful women everywhere it often becomes the only thing being thought about, often results in eating disorders, or unhealthy eating habits. To look like the famous actresses or today is an unattainable goal, they are just too underweight. All women and some men think about is how to stay young, beautiful and thin, we talk about it amongst each other, tricks, pills and exercise routines we've heard "work really good" and by work really good we mean, get the weight off fast.
The media show us the images we come to accept as normal is even more true because it really isn't normal for us to expect our bodies to hold up on minimal food and nutrition. Looking at a body that is borderline anerexic should turn our stomach and make us think that there sickly but instead we envy them and wish we had that kind of willpower.

This image of Diana Luna is a good example of the rule of thirds because she is standing right along the line, and it gives a good view of the scenery.

This is a good example of filling the frame because the whole shot is up close and of the subject and you can see his facial expression well.

Talking With Terry
Terry Seguin is one of the 52 percent of journalists that use Twitter to source news. The twenty first century has had a huge impact on journalism because everything is instant, I update my status when I’m brushing my teeth but people like Terry Seguin have much more interesting twitter updates, a detail of everything going on in New Brunswick hour to hour. To me this is an advantage because we get news updates for free and whenever we want, we can even get them sent to our cell phones if we wanted too. Although that same thing might be a disadvantage for journalist because we are no longer paying for newspapers or tuning in to the news hour because, well why would we, we’ve been getting updates all day for free. Terry said that people tweet him to comment on his radio show that would be another advantage for us because we can say what we want to hear or questions we wish would have been asked, this will keep Terry busy improving on questions we want to hear. At the same time every other person gets to leave their job when the day their being paid for is over but journalists now have a commitment to their listeners to answer tweets and emails about their work.
Mr. Seguin said that he had very little training before he got the job on the radio. I think that makes sense because being a journalist would be the same as being a public speaker either you got it or you don’t. Also I feel they would need training too like every job because you would need to know certain things like what is appropriate to say on the radio, or what questions need to be asked and what you can do with people who won’t answer your questions.
Radio news would have a huge advantage over TV news because you could get every question you want and need to ask asked because there isn’t as restricting time limits. Also there isn’t editing in radio news so the audience gets to hear everything that is discussed that way we always get the truth.
Mr. Seguin said something very important about his job, that being that every morning when he wakes up he is excited to go to work. Every morning I’m excited to get up and get ready for school but not so excited to go to school. It is doing makeup that I love, that’s why I choose to take a Makeup Course next year. Mr. Seguin is a very insightful man and gave good advice with interesting stories to go with.
